My german friends, Steffen and Nicola, brought this ‘warm’ drink to my notice a few days back. It was nice and flavorful. Supposed to be a traditional drink from Germany. I also read this somewhere on the web, that the glow-wine is served with a flaming sugar cube (wet in brandy) – thats the reason behind its name – need confirmation from the germans though :p

(shruti took these pics :) thanks!)

1 (750ml) bottle red wine
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup sugar
2 three-inch cinnamon sticks
3 cloves
2 lemon slices

Ingredients:

  • 1 (750ml) bottle red wine
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 2 three-inch cinnamon sticks
  • 3 cloves
  • 2 Orange slices
  • 1 lemon slices

Method:

#1. Add the sugar, cinnamon, cloves to the cup of water in a pot. Warm it up for 2-3 mins

#2. Add the red wine (I used Pinot Noir) and add the orange and lemon slices.

#3. Bring the whole mix to an almost boil. Make sure that you keep the heat below the boiling point of the alcohol or else you will miss the point :)

#4. Serve with a slice of lemon on the edge of the glass / mug.
