Glow Wine or (Gluehwein)
My german friends, Steffen and Nicola, brought this ‘warm’ drink to my notice a few days back. It was nice and flavorful. Supposed to be a traditional drink from Germany. I also read this somewhere on the web, that the glow-wine is served with a flaming sugar cube (wet in brandy) – thats the reason behind its name – need confirmation from the germans though :p

thanks!)
Ingredients:
- 1 (750ml) bottle red wine
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 2 three-inch cinnamon sticks
- 3 cloves
- 2 Orange slices
- 1 lemon slices
Method:
#1. Add the sugar, cinnamon, cloves to the cup of water in a pot. Warm it up for 2-3 mins
#2. Add the red wine (I used Pinot Noir) and add the orange and lemon slices.
#3. Bring the whole mix to an almost boil. Make sure that you keep the heat below the boiling point of the alcohol or else you will miss the point
#4. Serve with a slice of lemon on the edge of the glass / mug.

I write this comment in capacity of the “guinea” for Kaustuv’s experiment with this drink. I absolutely loved it (in spite of everything
—> inside joke)
PS- It is a good idea to label containers in the kitchen. Right, K
?
